How did Spare Parts website come into being?

In 2005 Gai decided that she needed to catch up with the rest of the world by using the Internet to sell her music. Next was deciding how to proceed and who did she wanted to go into partnership with.

How did you (Gai) meet Mike and Bill?

Hearing “The Only Chrome Waterfall” introduced me to the musical world of Mike Gibbs and I became a huge fan. In 2003 I travelled to London to meet Mike, study his scores and get an inkling of how he approached composing and arranging. He was a unique and generous teacher who consistently broadened my idea of what is possible. Mike remained “on file” in my head as a great collaborator for any future writing project. When Spare Parts became a reality Mike was an obvious choice as a contributor for the site despite being domiciled in Spain.

I met Bill Motzing late in 2005 when I needed help with some arrangements. Through this experience I discovered the beauty of Bill’s writing and that he too was a Mike Gibbs admirer! His experience, imagination and love of sharing musical information made him ideal collaborator and contributor for Spare Parts.

I have the unique pleasure of being the fledgling composer on the site, which means that I am constantly learning and being inspired by Bill and Mike’s scores and recordings. The Internet could not be put to better use than enabling these talents to become known to a larger musical community.
